Measuring cosmic filament spin with the kinetic Sunyaev–Zel’dovich effect

چکیده
The spin of intergalactic filaments has been predicted from simulations, and supported by tentative evidence redshift-space filament shapes in a galaxy redshift survey: generally, is redshifted on one side its axis, blueshifted the other. Here, we investigate whether spins could have measurable kinetic Sunyaev-Zel'dovich (kSZ) signal, CMB photons being scattered moving ionised gas; this pure velocity information complementary to shapes. We propose measure kSZ dipole combining surveys with experiments. base our S/N analyses first an existing catalogue, combination Planck data. then detectability using DESI or SKA-2 next-stage find that gas halos galaxies co-rotating induce stronger signal than diffuse filamentary gas, but both signals seem too small be detected near-term such as DESI+future But future experiments give more 10$\sigma$ detection. gain comes mainly increased area overlap number filaments, also low noise high resolution are important capture sky. Successful detection may help gravitomagnetic effect large-scale structure advance understanding baryons cosmic web.

Measuring cosmic shear with the ring statistics
Context. Commonly used methods to decompose Eand B-modes in cosmic shear, namely the aperture mass dispersion and the E/B-mode shear correlation function, suffer from incomplete knowledge of the two-point correlation function (2PCF) on very small and/or very large scales. The ring statistics, the most recently developed cosmic shear measure, improves on this issue and is able to decompose Eand ...

Secondary anisotropies of the CMB have the potential to reveal intricate details about the history of our universe between the present and recombination epochs. However, because the CMB we observe is the projected sum of a multitude of effects, the interpretation of small scale anisotropies by future high resolution experiments will be marred by uncertainty and speculation without the handles p...
متن کاملMeasuring Cosmic Elements with Gamma-Ray Telescopes
Gamma-ray telescopes are capable of measuring radioactive trace isotopes from cosmic nucleosynthesis events. Such measurements address new isotope production rather directly for a few key isotopes such as Ti, Al, Fe, and Ni, as well as positrons from the β-decay variety. Experiments of the past decades have now established an astronomy with γ-ray lines, which is an important part of the study o...
متن کاملMeasuring the Cosmic Ray Composition at the Knee with BLANCA
BLANCA is a new, large non-imaging Cerenkov detector located at the CASA-MIA experiment it Dugway, Utah. Using 144 individual Cerenkov detectors, BLANCA covers an area of approximately 0.2 km and has an energy threshold of 300 TeV. The lateral density function (LDF) of the Cerenkov light in air showers is measured. Since the LDF depends on the primary particle species, a change in composition a...
متن کاملMeasuring the Cosmic Equation of State with Counts of Galaxies.
The classical dN/dz test allows one to determine fundamental cosmological parameters from the evolution of the cosmic volume element. This test is applied by measuring the redshift distribution of a tracer whose evolution in number density is known. In the past, ordinary galaxies have been used for this; however, in the absence of a complete theory of galaxy formation, that method is fraught wi...
